Historical evolution
Yunxi temple was built during the reign of emperor xiaochunzong of Song Dynasty (about 1169-1170 A.D.). The temple, formerly known as Guanyin temple, was burned in the Qing Dynasty. The houses of the temple were demolished and the Buddha statues were destroyed. Only one Guanyin at the end of the bridge was carved in stone. However, the soldiers of the Qing Dynasty could not destroy it and were pushed into the river in a rage.
Legend has it that master Zhao Zhifeng, the founder of Dazu stone carving, lived in Yanshan, an ancient Buddha. He followed his master's instructions and studied outside the mountain for three years. During the reign of emperor xiaochunzong of the Song Dynasty, he returned to Dazu from Rongchang all the way. When he passed by Ximen, he saw that the Laixi river was full of waves. For some unknown reason, the villagers nearby often fall into the river and disappear. Master Zhao Zhifeng hears that there is something unknown in the river that is causing trouble. Suddenly, he has the compassion of a Bodhisattva. He stops here to make friends, raise money and build a thatched roof. Every day, he chanted sutras, worshiped Buddha, meditated, and carved a statue of Guanyin for the Yan Family bridge. After seventy-seven and forty-nine days, the river subsided and became calm. Yunxi temple covers an area of 288 mu, with a construction area of 3800 square meters. It is a Buddhist temple integrating Shanmen hall, Guanyin hall, Daxiong hall, Zen hall and wing rooms on both sides.

General plan of short term planning
General layout design
In the existing area, the core area of the temple is composed of the 500 arhat corridor and the main hall. In the recent planning, some of the existing temple buildings will be retained. The main hall is in the form of a six storey attic, which not only solves the problem of narrow space in the existing area of the temple, but also focuses on the momentum of the whole temple, which is solemn and sacred. In addition, a piece of planning land is added to the west side of the temple as Yunxi academy, which is mainly used for Buddhist research and promotion. In the later planning of the temple, the existing Guanyin hall, the God of wealth hall, the pharmacist hall and the dizang hall are demolished to construct a Buddhist temple surrounded by the five hundred arhat corridor and the Mahatma hall, which is spacious and makes the architectural group of the temple more clear and organized.
The basement of the building is smooth and stable, and the buildings are overlapped and scattered. Use the surrounding countryside and river landscape as the background.
Temple long term plan
Traffic organization
External traffic: the original branch road along the river and the stone bridge and riverside embankment road facing the central axis of the temple are used as the main roads for external traffic.
Internal traffic: the internal traffic is the fire passage traffic and the whole tour trail system.
The roads in the area are mainly straight-line roads, supplemented by curved paths, connecting individual buildings. On the path of worshiping Buddha, small Zen landscapes are used to enhance the spatial level. Although the site of the whole building is very small, tourists can have a different feeling of space by enhancing the richness of space experience, so as to achieve the effect of seeing the big from the small.
Analysis of architectural form
Spatial layout principle and spatial structure
Openness and privacy: in terms of planning techniques, the spatial layout structure of the temple is constructed by highlighting the characteristics of traditional Chinese architectural culture, integrating the characteristics of local landscape vegetation, and learning from the comparison. The necessary private space is built on the basis of public activity space and temple halls, and combined with the different needs of visitors, Buddhist monks and monasteries, Form the difference and solemn Temple space.
Comprehensiveness and characteristics: the integration of the whole Yunxi temple can be achieved through the setting of open recreation space and unique Buddhist culture space. Through the layout method of axial symmetry and imitating nature in landscape, it can promote the transition and penetration of different people flow.
Landscape Systematization: Based on the integration of Yunxi temple, fully consider the functional structure, integrate ancient trees, rivers, farmland and other landscapes into the Buddhist scene atmosphere of Yunxi temple, form a systematic Buddhist garden plant landscape, set off the unique and complete feeling of Yunxi Temple Park, and meet the psychological feelings of tourists to the greatest extent.
